Well we knew it'd be a long day as we couldn't get a motel where we wanted to, so had to go an extra 27 miles to the next town. Not only that but after 40 miles we found our proposed route blocked by a missing bridge. We had to find a new route that added some miles to the route meaning a total of 134.16 (including an extra couple of miles to get a vanilla cappuccino!) and significant parts were against 15+ mph winds and in temperatures in the late eighties degrees F. Not very kind to the old bodies and the rough roads in Texas also added to the discomfort with 8 hours 45 minutes in the jarring saddle. 1465 miles from Oceanside.
First settelement was Leuders which was terribly run down. Majority of buildings not just out of use but boarded up and falling down. Sad.
Albany was a lot better looking but oddly deserted.
Staying in a nice Best Western motel in Comanche, Tx tonight and had amusing meal in local chicken fast food place staffed by cast of oddball characters. Managed to resist the chicken gizzards that were on offer.
Nicely painted sign on the water tank but why put it behind those trees?
Sounds like a fairly typical US day and you've finally confessed to a fast food outlet. Maybe you need a bit more padding in your saddles, or a bit more meat on your old bones?
