As it is due to be very hot this afternoon we plan a short day and will stay another day in Palm Springs. We drive back to Anza and so get to Paradise Valley Cafe after less than 5 miles. I have steak and three eggs (shared with Mandy) and Keith has the biggest breakfast burrito I've ever seen. Lucky we go downhill soon.
We climb the last few miles into slightly greener highlands before the long descent into the hot dry desert valley that is back down to 500' asl after the 4000' at the summit.
The ride down is great with a really smooth non melting tarmac and good cambers on bends so roll at 30 to 35 mph and never touch the breaks despite many bends.
Finally down to the intense heat of 105 degrees F for last 12 miles through the flat desert towns to hotel in Pam Springs. Spend afternoon in air conditioning!
41 miles today and 106 from the start. Another 25 times that and we'll be done finished.
Do I deserve this after 4.8 miles?
The view down to Palm Desert and Palm Springs.
We'll be on the road in the background after a series of bends.
All that food 4.8 miles into a downhill run?
ReplyDeleteWow. Those springs are well hidden!
